Yes, Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic Park, Back to the Future...They’ve all been an enormous inspiration, just as they are for most people in this profession.
I still remember the first time I saw a lightsaber ignite... it was pure magic. That moment didn’t just captivate me; it stayed with me!
Before diving into the world of visual effects, I began my academic journey in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Turin. However, I quickly realized that spending my days behind a microscope wasn’t my true calling. So, I leaped to sit behind a monitor and started playing with images.
I trained at the VFX Wizard Academy in Rome, preparing for the Adobe Certified Expert certification. During this time, I discovered the world of nodal compositing through videos released by Foundry in collaboration with Steve Wright. This newfound passion led me to enroll in the Nuke VFX Compositing Master’s course at SWDFX (now FXEcademy). I was even fortunate to meet Steve in person when he visited Milan!
This journey is why I decided to become a compositor and work in VFX: because I believe the magic of cinema, much like stage illusionism, can give us a moment where the incredible unfolds before our eyes. We can almost touch it. And for just an instant, our ordinary world blends with the imagination of the storyteller.
Beyond the software, the tools, and artistry itself, there’s a story to tell!
And being able to tell it from behind the scenes... like a puppeteer, like a craftsman of imagery, is all I could ever ask for.
